"Welcome to the Virtual World...may I take your username?"

Quick note: I wrote this a long time back, but never published - thought it wasn't good enough. This just occurred to me --> it's just a post - doesnt need to be perfect right?!? So posting this now - Please be sure to leave a comment with what you think!

Over the last few years, there have been some amazing advancements in gadgets - specifically the new imaging devices have emerged and a new horizon for virtual reality has been set. These devices have opened up a door for limitless future development possibilities. "Occulus Rift", the virtual reality head-mounted device that was received with overwhelming Kickstarter response, has been the pioneer in developing the key tech that can realise the virtual reality. The reason behind this huge success is an amazing idea which transfers all your senses into a digitally created world. Although this concept has been recently recognised, the idea has been around for decades.

A number of movies have previously portrayed the idea of a metaverse (The Matrix, Source Code, Inception...just to name a few). Although these ideas have not been fully explored, yet it definitely sparked a new era of technology and in few years we are headed directly into these virtual worlds.

Okay so one may ask --> "What is it really about Virtual Reality that attracts people's attention?". The simple answer to this might sound foolish but it's true. Virtual reality lets users escape from their own reality into a fantasy that they have more control of. The amount of immersion experienced by users makes it somewhat impossible to differentiate their reality from the virtual world. Again this concepts is not new, we have all seen Cobb with his Totem in Inception. One of the biggest proof of these immersive experiences can be easily found all over the web, where we see developers/testers confused and shocked from how real the virtual reality feels. The line between what is real and what is virtual has been significantly blurred by now with many new virtual reality devices coming into the consumer market soon.

You may wonder --> "Sooo, what's next?". Now imagine this -> how cool would it be when this 'virtual worlds' can exist in some sort of a metaverse where all other characters are actual humans existing through virtual reality devices. Instead of interacting with each other in the real world, they can interact through the metaverse. Now, where have I heard something like this before? Yes, you got it, this sounds like something right out of a science fiction movie right? Accept it or not, that's exactly where everything is headed. Once we have something like this it will definitely allow us to have our own fantasy worlds, each one so detailed that we would forget what makes reality real.
